Leh Ladakh is known as the hub of adventure activities. Not only the scenic beauty of the place draws people towards it; adventure lovers are equally attracted to Leh Ladakh.

The land of Leh Ladakh has everything one can ask for from cold deserts to sparkling lakes, from rustic mountain ranges to green meadows. It is like a pandora box, and every step will lead to a new discovery.

Being the adventure magnet, it is there are lots of activities one can do when on a trip to Leh Ladakh.

Here’s a glimpse of the activities to do in Leh Ladakh.

1. Chadar trek

Chadar trek is the dream trekking destination of every adventure lover. Also known as the Frozen river trek, it is one of the most distinct and demanding treks in the country.

The difficulty of the chadar trek is compensated by the spellbinding beauty one gets to witness during the trek.

Trekking on frozen sheets of ice with alluring mountain ranges and aesthetic beauty surrounding the area is surely an experience of a lifetime. It takes around 6 days to complete the Chadar trekking expedition.

2. Bactarian camel safari

The geographical makeup of the lands in the Ladakh region is rough. Due to this, the major mode of transportation in the area is two-humped camels. The two-humped camels also are known as the Bactarian camel.

Bactarian camels are known for being the major source of transportation on the ancient silk route. The Bactarian camel rides are done from Hunder to Turtuk.

The ride will pass along the alluring terrains with the beautiful Shyok and Nubra River flowing nearby. One interesting fact about these two-humped camels is that instead of water, they store fat in their humps.

3. Stargazing at Lamayuru Monastery

Looking at the clear sky with twinkling stars is a distant possibility in the city. However, there is a chance to see the stars in a clear view when travelling to Ladakh.

About 100 kms from Leh, there is a village called Lamayuru, which is located on the Leh-Kargil road. Many people make a stopover at this village during the night for stargazing at the Lamayuru Monastery.

The Lamayuru monastery is among one of the ancient and big Tibetan Buddhist monasteries to exist on the lands of Ladakh. The other name of the village of Lamayuru is “Moonland of Ladakh”.

The other thing The village of Lamayuru is famous for is its clear visual of the night sky. The reason being that the village offers some of the stunning views of the vistas of the mountain that look very similar to the moon. 

4. Bike expedition to Khardung La

Ladakh is known for bike tour expeditions. The highest motorable road in the country lies in Ladakh. It attracts a lot of bike and adventure lovers for the majority of the year.

Khardung La pass is the highest motorable road in the country. The biking expedition to Khardung La pass is one of the must-do activities when in Ladakh.

Upon reaching the top, one will be surrounded by the serene beauty of the valley. The snow-capped mountains and the alluring landscapes are a sight to behold.  

5. Jeep safari at Changthang wildlife sanctuary 

One of the largest nature reserves in the country is the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located in the Leh district at an altitude of 4000-9000 ft. 

The wildlife sanctuary home to some of the rarest range of flora and fauna in the country. Some of the famous lakes of the Ladakh region such as Tso Moriri, Pangong Tso and Tso Kar are also situated in the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary.

The jeep safari ride to explore the wilderness of Changthang wildlife sanctuary is one of the famous activities to do when visiting Ladakh. One can see some of the rarest of the wildlife during the safari.

One thing to keep in mind is that it is mandatory to seek permission from the District Commissioner’s office of Leh to visit the sanctuary.

The adventure activities that one can do in Leh Ladakh is immense. The geographical location of the Ladakh makes it one of the most beautiful destinations in the country along with being a hot spot for adventure activities. 

High altitude mountain biking is a sport of riding bicycles off-road. Sand dunes are large masses of wind-blown sand. Nubra valley is a subdivision and a tehsil in the Indian union territory of Ladakh.

Tso Moriri or Lake Moriri or “Mountain Lake”, is a beautiful lake in the Changthang Plateau. Diskit monastery stands on a hill above the flood plains of Shyok River, and river rafting is the best part of adventure tourism.

The Indus River is one of the longest rivers in Asia. Jammu and Kashmir is a region administered by India as a union territory and famous for its scenic splendour, snow-capped mountains, plentiful wildlife, and tough roads in the world for adventure sports. Similar to Zanskar river is popular with adventure junkies.
