Sony Xperia 1 II: Strange name, crazy features

Sony Xperia 1 II Strange name, crazy features

Sony has unveiled its new flagship, the Xperia 1 II, to pronounce Xperia 1 Mark II, like the other products of the brand. It keeps its 21: 9 format, but switches to 5G.

It should have been at MWC 2020, but with the cancellation of the show, Sony’s announcement rather took place online, through a conference recorded and broadcast on YouTube.

The Japanese manufacturer presented, as every year, its new range of smartphones with a brand new flagship. Here is the Xperia 1 II, or Xperia 1 “Mark 2,” which succeeds the Xperia 1 of 2019.

Sony retains many of the key features of the Xperia 1 for this new generation, including the 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED screen in 21: 9 format.

It is always borderless and without any notch or bubble, allowing you to make the most of content in 21: 9, the standard format of cinema.

The screen uses a refresh rate of 60 Hz, but Sony promises a “Motion Blur” effect is giving the effect of a 90 Hz screen. We ask to see.

To this screen is added stereo sound on the front, but also the return of the 3.5 mm jack port. Finally, the Xperia 1 II introduces the DSEE Ultimate, a new version of the Japanese manufacturer’s audio decompression algorithm.

Sony is once again putting on the camera of its Smartphone even if it is an element on the manufacturer has struggled to fully prove itself in recent years.

The Xperia 1 uses three cameras with an additional iTOF sensor.

  • Here is the configuration of the camera:
  • 16 mm equivalent: 12 MP 1 / 2.6 inch
  • 24 mm equivalent: 12 MP 1 / 1.7 inch
  • 70 mm equivalent: 12 MP 1 / 3.4 inch

The objective lenses will be manufactured by Zeiss, one of Sony’s historic partners in the field of photography, but which we used to see on the side of Nokia in the field of telephony.

Technical Characteristics: We Move To 5g

Like all the flagships expected in 2020, the Sony Xperia 1 switches to Snapdragon 865, the best chip from Qualcomm, and, therefore, to 5G.

Sony specifies here that it is 5G “Sub 6”, that is to say, 5G without millimetre waves and the easiest to integrate at first for smartphones and mobile networks.

Here is a recap of the technical sheet.
