This is a two-way street; when you meet assertive people, you know your place. However, being assertive does not mean that you have to constantly be at odds with your co-workers, as long as you have people that are mature and respect your decision.

On top of that, when people become comfortable with you enough to provide honest opinions and ideas without censoring themselves, relationships become more authentic.
