The 8 Types of Relationships: Which One Is Yours

Relationships come in a variety of forms and sizes. Some people may be looking for a long-term commitment while others just want to have fun.

There are also people who prefer no-strings-attached types of relationships and some who don’t want any kind of relationship at all.

But how do you know which type of relationship is best for you?

This post will break down the 8 types of relationships and give you tips on how to find one that fits your needs best.

No strings attached relationships

This is the relationship that you can have without any expectations or commitment. No promises are made for a future, this is a relationship that’s temporary and based on mutual attraction.

There are many different situations in which this kind of relationship can come into existence, from just a hook-up to casual dating or even a long-term relationship.

A no-strings-attached relationship doesn’t mean there’s no real connection between you and the other person, it just means there’s no commitment or obligation and that you both have no expectations.

When you are with someone like this, you can enjoy it completely without getting too emotionally attached to the other person.

Friends with benefits relationships

They are the easiest type of relationship you can have, and they’re considered to be more of a short-term thing than an actual relationship.

Friends with benefits come in many different shapes and sizes though. There are also couples who are just good friends who get together for casual sex, but that’s not a relationship in itself.

You’re free to break it off, but a good friend will stick around and support you in whatever you do.

Twin flame relationship

A relationship with another person with who you are 100% compatible is the closest thing to being in a twin flame relationship, where you connect with another person so closely that you feel like you’re soulmates.

But a relationship with a twin flame is not meant to be long-term or monogamous and if you’re able to get to this point it usually means that you’ve been with this individual for a long time.

So if you do find yourself in a relationship with another person that’s like a twin flame, make sure that you understand your motives and end the relationship if you feel that the relationship is too much for you to handle.

Friendzone relationships

Friendzone relationships are relationships in which the person you like doesn’t like you back. You can’t talk to them. They are not interested in getting to know you better.

After a while, the rejection can get too much and it can make you think of all kinds of negative things.

To avoid being in a friend zone, you have to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Maybe they are in a bad mood or having trouble at work. Maybe they are really busy. Perhaps they have been at the office all night and are ready to go home.

In a relationship, you should treat your partner with love and compassion.

If they are genuinely sad, you should help them with whatever they need. If they need someone to talk to, try to be available for them.

Platonic relationships

These relationships are both platonic and romantic. They can also be brief and casual and include both people being friends.

The benefits of platonic relationships are that you can have a good friendship with someone without having to invest any more energy into it.

It’s a great way to get to know someone before making a commitment, as it gives you a chance to figure out if that person is worth it and how they would fit into your life.

When a relationship is platonic there’s no pressure to get serious with that person, so it can be a good way to see if you’re compatible with someone before getting serious.

They also typically don’t carry any baggage that could cause problems in the future and can provide a great buffer for the many stresses that come with dating.

Dating relationships

A dating relationship is one where you are looking for a long-term relationship with the other person. It may or may not include romantic intimacy.

People in this relationship are usually committed to one another and are even more committed to making a relationship work.

This kind of relationship usually lasts for at least a year, but it might take years before they actually get married and start a family.

Soul mates

If you believe in soul mates then you need to find that person who completes you and who understands you on a deeper level than anyone else.

There’s nothing like someone who understands you without even having to say a word. They can see you in your most vulnerable and raw state and there is no better feeling than knowing that they will always be there for you no matter what.

These types of relationships are worth fighting for because finding the person you are meant to be with will transform your life in ways you never could have imagined.

Karmic relationship

Do you know how you always hear people say relationships are made in heaven?

Well, that’s not strictly true. We make all kinds of relationships. The ones that will make us miserable and the ones that will make us happy.

Some of those relationships that make us unhappy will actually disappear if we do not keep giving them the attention they deserve.

They say bad karma comes back to you and sometimes when you don’t realize it, it can affect the way you make relationships. I mean, your first love is probably your karmic boyfriend but things will change as you mature and have more experiences.

But how do you know which type of relationship you have?

You have to understand that karmic relationships are relationships that are karma-oriented.

Conclusion

Relationships don’t come with a one-size-fits-all approach and there are many different situations that may have different needs.

What’s important is to find the type of relationship that works best for you and to put as much effort into it as you want. If you have any questions or want to discuss something further, please let me know in the comments below.
