Design & Build Review
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 comes in an elegant chassis that nearly weighs around 2.4lbs (1kg). This is a classic ThinkPad series design which comes with a matte black finish. At the top-left corner of the lid, it features the ThinkPad logo, while the bottom-right bears the word ‘X1’.
The material used in Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is carbon-fibre, which ensures both strength and lightweight-ness. The matte black finish ends on the external lid, but the black hue continues to its interior parts.
The keyboard deck and areas around the display are painted in black shade. This adds a universal look and gives the X1 the same iconic ThinkPad look.
Display Quality
The display on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is a 15-inch screen. The brand offers both 1080 and 4K display, so you can grab either one.
Our model came with 4K Ultra HD display with an IPS-equipped HDR panel. This is a diagonal display that delivers true-to-life colours, thanks to a high-resolution of 3840 x 2160p.
We were able to secure the screen brightness of 432 nits with 144% sRGB colour gamut. We were able to receive crispy visuals during both streaming and gaming. The colours were vividly bright, while we were able to stay ahead of the team when we indulged into online gaming.
Keyboard & Touchpad
Needless to say, the keyboard on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is the same famous board. This is a backlit keyboard that comes with chiclet-style keys and RGB backlighting.
The slightly curved keys offer a soft touch and deliver a nice tactile bump. However, the replacement of the ‘Fn’ key with ‘Ctrl’ may irritate new users.
On 10fingerstest, we were able to type 105/wpm with an accuracy of 97%. Overall, we found the keyboard precise and ideal for writing.
On the top right corner, there is the power button, where the bottom side features a fingerprint scanner.
The touchpad on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is 3.9 x 2.2-inch wide. This is a highly responsive trackpad made of the same carbon-fibre material that swiftly responds to commands.
Lenovo has also added three distinct mouse buttons on the touchpad and a rubber nub in the middle of the keyboard.
Hardware & Performance
The hardware selection on this ThinkPad is splurging and bountiful. It is not wrong to say that the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 offers more than you can chew. The processor on this business laptop is the Core i9-9880H with a base speed of 2.3GHz. This Octa-core processor can deliver a maximum boost of 408GHz.
There is a discrete Nvidia GPU with 4GB VRAM that can smoothly run 4K visuals. The GTX 1650 (4GB) is an economical graphics card that can deliver 1080p gameplay at medium to high settings. You will get 60fps while running most of the modern AAA titles.
Additionally, there is a mammoth DDR4 RAM of 32GB with a massive SSD storage of 4TB. This is jaw-dropping specifications even for creative professionals with casual gaming needs.
Talking about its performance, we evaluated the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 by running some hefty tasks. At first, we tested it by opening more than 32 chrome tabs at once.
The device did not show any delays, even when we were streaming 4K videos in separate tabs. We use it for multitasking by working on Adobe premier for designing tasks while running Illustrator in the background.
During our Lenovo ThinkPad X1 review, we were nothing but amazed by its performance. We found it an ideal companion for multitaskers who work on the go. Whether you are a business user or a creative professional, it can handle your everyday computing needs.
Battery Life Performance
Lenovo claims that the ThinkPad X1 can deliver up to 14 hours of performance in one charging. We found it somewhat true, as we were able to receive around 13 hours with the Wi-Fi test.
However, battery life performance changed with respect to usage. Its battery life dropped to around 6 hours when we used it for continuous gaming and 4K video playback.
Final Note
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is an outstanding device for those with demanding needs. You can use it for designing and media creation as well as high-pace gaming.
A lightweight design, long-lasting battery, and jaw-dropping hardware make it an ideal pick for professionals. So, if you are not on a budget leash, we advise you to put your money on this powerful ThinkPad.
