IPL stats Top 5 records held by Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) won their first knock-out game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time in 2019 and will surely look to continue their winning spree in the IPL 2020.

A lot of fantasy Cricket enthusiasts who indulge in Dream11 predictions in the IPL may also be pinning their hopes on the DC to turn the table once again in the IPL 2020.

Delhi franchise Team has been a part of the cash-rich IPL ever since 2008 but has not been able to reach the Final of the Tournament. They had topped the tabled in 2012 but did not capitalize on both the chances that they got to reach the Final.

In 2019 IPL, the DC Team led by Shreyas Iyer finished at the 3rd spot in the IPL Points Table. They also defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator but lost to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 2.

During the IPL Auction 2019, the Delhi Management signed Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Roy and Marcus Stoinis to boost their Team composition.

Even though the Delhi Capitals have not won an IPL Trophy, they do have some IPL records that you may like to go through. Take a look:

Record for the highest successful run chase at the home ground

It was during the 2017 IPL at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground (now Arun Jaitley Stadium) against Gujarat Lions (now defunct) that DC created a unique record. They did that by chasing a high score.

The visitors had put 208 on the board with the 50s by Dinesh Karthik and Suresh Raina. Needing 209, Delhi lost Karun Nair in no time. But Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson did it with a 143 run partnership for the 2nd wicket.

Pant missed his 100 by 3 runs, and Samson hit 61 from 31 balls. The home side won the game in the 18th over. Many people who had gone ahead with correct dream 11 predictions for today’s match for the game earned points and took home cash.

1. Lowest total at a home game

Delhi was one of the most unpredictable sides in the IPL 2017 – at one side, they chased a record total, while on the other hand, were packed for a paltry 66.

The match was the 45th in the IPL 2017 against Mumbai Indians in Delhi. Thanks to some great batting display by Pollard and Simmons,  it propelled Mumbai to 212/3. In reply, Delhi lost half their side within the PowerPlay before being bundled for 66.

Bhajji and Karn Sharma picked 3 wickets each to see Delhi packing. They lost the match by 146 runs – the biggest margin loss in the IPL. Cricket enthusiasts making Dream11 predictions considering Delhi players did not have much to cheer in this game.

2. Lowest score while batting first

2017 was surely an unusual year for Delhi Capitals as their match against Kings Xi Punjab saw them with their lowest score in the first innings in Mohali. Sandeep Sharma ripped apart the Delhi as he dismissed both the openers and Iyer in his first spell.

Delhi did not recover from the assault and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Delhi’s innings was packed in 18th over with Kings winning the match by 10 wickets. Martin Guptill hit a fast 50 to ensure that the side wins in the 8th over itself.

3. Highest strike rate in an innings

Among the IPL innings lasting at least 5 balls, Chris Morris of the Delhi Capitals owns the record for having the best strike rate. During a 2017 IPL match Vs the Rising Pune Supergiant (now defunct), he assaulted the opposition with some clean strikes.

In Pune, the towering 100 by Sanju Samson had already set the stage for a bigger score.

And Morris ensured that the score was past 200. In 9 balls, the Proteas all-rounder hit 38 runs – an innings that lasted just 7 minutes. He had 3 sixes and 4 boundaries that saw the Delhi Capitals piling 205/4.

He also played a part in the 2nd innings by taking a wicket and helping his Team win the game by 97 runs. Most of the Dream11 predictions made in favor of Delhi batsman had a great time on the virtual Cricket platform.

4. Highest score by an Indian batsman

In the IPL history, Rishabh Pant, the young wicket keeper bat of India has the record for being the highest individual Indian scorer. IPL has seen legends like MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar over the years. But it is Rishabh Pant, who stands tall being the numero uno.

He did that in an IPL 2018 match Vs SRH. It seemed that SRH would get the better of DC as it lost 3 key wickets before 50. But Rishabh Pant turned the tide in his favour and played an innings of 128 runs off only 63 balls. His innings saw Delhi posting a big total of 187/5.

Pant hit 15 hits to the boundaries and 7 out of the park that told the story of his absolute onslaught. Still, Delhi lost the game by 9 wickets.

Yet people aware of the heroics of Pant went for Dream11 predictions considering him in their plans to score huge points virtually.
